260 B.C: Ashoka conquered Kalinga, which ruled Visakhapatnam then.
208 B.C: Chandra Sri Satakarni became King.
220 A.D: Pallavas took over as rulers.
1000 to 1200 A.D: The Cholas came to power. 1500 AD: The Gajapatis overthrew the Gangas.
14th Century: The famed Simhachalam Temple was built.
1515: Krishna Deva Raya came to power as emperor of the region.
1575: The Qutub Shahis of Golconda defeated Gajapatis and came to power.
Mid-17th Century: The East India Company of Britain, founded a factory in the then "Vizagapatam."
1689: Aurangzeb’s forces conquered the factory.
1735: A Dutch Colony was established.
1765: The first British colony was built. On dissolution of the Moghul Empire, the territory of the Northern Circars, which Vizag was a part of, surrendered to the East India Company.
1800: The battles of Bobili and Padmanabham were fought.
1922-24: Alluru Sitharama Raju fought against the British.
1904: A railway route from Madras to Calcutta, passing through Vizagapatam was opened.
1923: The Andhra Medical College was established.
1926: Andhra University was established.
1933: Visakhapatnam Port was established.
1942: Japanese war planes attacked Vizag.
1947: The Eastern Naval Command established its base in Vizag. Previously, the Royal Navy had a base in HMIS Sircars.
1949: The Scindia Shipyard was established and was later nationalised. It is now called the Hindustan Shipyard.
1953: The hitherto Boat Repair Shop was renamed and expanded into a Base Repair Organisation (BRO). It was relocated at the mouth of the northwest channel.
1957: Caltex, a petroleum refinery. HPCL no owns the refinery.
1965: JUMNA and INVESTIGATOR, two survey ships were permanently re-based at Visakhapatnam.
1971: INS Rajput of the Indian Navy destroyed the Pakistani submarine Ghazi in the Indo-Pak War off the coast of Visakhapatnam.
1981: Visakhapatnam Steel Plant started functioning.
